Beautiful rustic Over Barn wedding of Charlotte & Ben in Gloucestershire...
Everything about Charlotte & Ben's wedding was perfect. Even the weather behaved itself for the first weekend of October here in Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds, which was a bonus.
Their venue was at Over Barn just outside the city walls of Gloucester and is on the estate of Over Farm Market farm shop, a place that I know very well which is located less than a mile from where I live. Usually its where I head to stretch my legs during a day of editing wedding photos with the purpose of getting groceries, a yummy bite to eat for lunch and chatting to the friendly staff.
Well, they have an old barn on site which has a very cute cobbled courtyard and ever so spacious. Its perfect for those of us that really do love to put our own stamp on things as it is a complete blank canvas. Now its a "proper" barn - not the "brand new made to look old type". It has both grace and character and has retained all of its charms - its perfect.
Ben and his blokes were putting the finishing touches on all the curios that dressed the barn (all lovingly hand made by him and Charlotte), whilst the ladies were arriving armed with delightful treats such as home made cakes and sandwiches ready for the sit down afternoon tea.
The ceremony was conducted by a friend and whilst they were exchanging rings an aeroplane came in to land and glided in overhead with an almighty whoosh to land on the landing strip on the other side of the barn. I even got a shot of a very enthusiastic pilot with a big grin on his face waving out the window and wishing us all well - classic!
Later in the afternoon right on dusk, I grabbed a camera and Charlotte, Ben and I went exploring the farm seeking out some fab locations for some photographs.
I really love my couples to have a few unique pieces that are special to them and I really try and avoid the mundane uncomfortable poses and concentrate on just capturing what is before me. You see, raw emotion radiates out of couples that are giddy with love, and its that love and precious interaction between them that creates special little moments and its those moments that make beautiful memories. I am there to read the situation and to watch out for that little flicker in an eye or that cute smile and to capture it in a split second.
We were spoilt, as the backgrounds of the surrounding barns, machinery, isolated tracks and corn fields were in abundance. At one stage whilst in a corn field another plane came in to land and whizzed right over our heads. Ben loves climbing and his wedding day was no exception! I will let you treat yourselves to a peep at a small collection of the photographs from the day in the gallery below.
Here in Gloucestershire and the surrounding areas of the Cotswolds and Cheltenham we are truly spoilt with delightful wedding venues. As far as barns go, I would say that Over Barn is in my top 5. It has a fabulous amount of room and is very secure with the courtyard, especially if their are kids in attendance. The bar is situated in the main barn which is open plan which is perfect for a great people packed dance floor. Reason being, that guests can't escape to a bar in another room so they grab a beer and get their groove on.
